He believes in "thinking globally but acting locally" to change the society through the influence of the local church. Tony and his wife Lawana live in Louisiana. They have five children and three grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter Holly Ranee Hunter, son Travis Lynn Hunter as well as his mother Lynda Phelps Hunter. Additionally, he leaves behind his sisters Ronahkaye Shrum, a.k.a. Mopsy and his nephews Zackary Hunter and Adrian Hunter.
